The Civil Air Patrol organization, in part, exists to encourage and aid American citizens with aviation education and training.

This goal is uniquely accomplished via CAP's external and internal Aerospace Education programs
Aerospace Education is a major part of the cadet program. In order to progress through the cadet program cadets
must complete formal aerospace education requirements. The external program is accomplished by providing
aerospace education materials to teachers and on an annual basis CAP showcases math and science at their
National Congress and Space Education Conference (NCASE) specifically designed for educators, with renowned
speakers such as Homer Hickam (author of October Sky).

Cadets and seniors not only study aerospace, but participate in many hands on activities that reinforce
what the books teach, and provide experiences over and above what can be imagined. Cadets are provided with
orientation flights both in powered aircraft and gliders. There are National Special Activities offered each
summer, that provide incredible opportunities for cadets who meet the qualifications. These activities include
such things as Air Force Pilot or Space Command Familiarization Courses, flight academies, and more.
